Bill Saris
Moira DEEMING (Western Metropolitan) (09:47): I rise today to pay tribute to Bill Saris, who, sadly, passed away, and to extend my deepest condolences to his wife Voula, his daughter Nikki, his son Pantelli, his mother Niki and his three siblings. Bill came to Australia from Greece when he was just one year old with his parents Peter and Niki, who were in search of a better life, and they found one. Bill grew up embracing the Australian way of life and never lost his pride in his Greek heritage. He loved Australia and he loved his Greek culture, traditions and values, carrying them with him throughout every chapter in his life, and that life was defined by hard work, determination and a strong commitment to those around him. Throughout his life Bill was a dedicated small business owner, establishing and operating businesses across Melbourne. Most recently he opened Gateway Auto Wash in Brooklyn, a new venture that only opened its doors a few months ago. Bill was also an accomplished kickboxer in his younger years, competing at an exceptionally high level and earning great respect within his sport. Those who knew Bill will remember his unmistakable character, often recognised by his trademark hat and cigar, and away from work some of his happiest times were spent at the beach surrounded by his family and his friends. We know that the legacy of his life and his character will be carried on by his children, and he will be missed.
