Katherine COPSEY (Southern Metropolitan) (14:09): (2492) My question is to the Minister for Housing, Building and Precincts. I have been contacted by a constituent of mine in Balaclava who has described serious defects in her new property. She signed a contract in 2021 for the construction of a townhouse, and since then she has discovered water damage that she believes was caused by leakage from the townhouse next door. She recently had an appraisal completed by an insurance expert, who identified 140 defects, including safety hazards. She has reported these to her owners corporation and to the insurer, but they have failed to cover the damages. As a result of this, my constituent and her young family have been saddled with significant financial pressure from both her mortgage and the rectification of this damage. Minister, can you please assist my constituent to understand what kind of safeguards exist for owners where their owner corporation and insurer refuse to cover incidents of developer and builder noncompliance?
