Gaelle BROAD (Northern Victoria) (14:10): (2493) My question is to the Minister for Health. I have been contacted by residents living in Bendigo who have experienced frightening situations when ambulances were simply not available. One resident’s father-in-law developed severe abdominal pain at 2 am, and between 2 and 5 am Triple Zero advised that no ambulance or taxi was available and told the family to drive him to the hospital themselves. Another resident found her husband collapsed on the bathroom floor. She was told there was no ambulance available and spent more than an hour getting him down the stairs and into their car to transport him to hospital. At the same time, the latest health data shows regional emergency departments, including Albury and Bendigo, are among the worst performing in Victoria, with patients waiting 24 hours or more. The data shows there has been a significant increase in the number of patients exceeding waiting 24 hours in the last 10 years. Minister, what immediate steps is the government taking to reduce the emergency department wait times and ensure that families can access an ambulance when they urgently need it?
