Moira DEEMING (Western Metropolitan) (14:04): (2487) My question is for the Minister for Police. Five mayors across Melbourne’s west have united, and I know that others agree. Brimbank, Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Melton have come together to call for more police to address the crime crisis in the west. It is up 12.7 per cent this year alone. In Brimbank it is up 8.8 per cent, yet Brimbank suffered the biggest fall in police numbers in the state. In Footscray, Keilor Downs and Caroline Springs counters are now open three days a week instead of the seven days a week that crime does actually occur. Residents who were assaulted in Sunshine and Footscray, one of whom tragically died as a result, were met with a government response which was just nothing more than a press conference. My constituent asks: when will the government actually do something practical about crime in Melbourne’s west?
