Ministers statements: vehicle registration rebate
Enver ERDOGAN (Northern Metropolitan – Minister for Finance, Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Minister for Government Services) (12:29): I rise today to update the house on the Victorian government’s 20 per cent vehicle registration rebate, also colloquially known as the 20 per cent rego rebate. I am pleased to report that the Carroll Labor government has extended the application deadline to ensure more Victorians can access this practical cost-of-living measure. Our focus remains on making sure life is easier, safer and more affordable for all Victorians. Eligible vehicle owners will continue to be able to claim the full 20 per cent rebate on their registration until 31 August this year. This applies whether registration is paid annually or by instalments. For a typical household that can be up to $186 back for every registered vehicle and as much as $372 back for two cars. More than 3.6 million Victorians have already benefited from the rebate, putting money back into household budgets when it is needed most. By extending the deadline, we are making sure more Victorians can access the support they are entitled to rather than missing out. Whether it helps cover the cost of groceries, school expenses, fuel, utility bills or everyday essentials, the rebate provides practical financial relief and helps families better manage rising household costs. Our government understands the pressure that many Victorians continue to face, and we remain focused on delivering practical measures that make a real difference to everyday lives. The application process is simple and accessible. Most eligible Victorians are able to complete an online application through Service Victoria in just a few minutes. I encourage all Victorians who have not yet claimed this rebate – 3.6 million already have – to make sure they do so before 31 August this year.
The PRESIDENT: I also acknowledge in the gallery a former member of the Victorian Parliament Mary Delahunty.
