 John BERGER (Southern Metropolitan) (22:16): (2724) My adjournment matter is directed towards the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment in the other place. We can all be very proud of the recent announcements that Melbourne is the number one ranked city in Australia for overnight and interstate visits. Tourism plays a vital role in our economy, creating jobs and economic growth. People come from all across the country, because Melbourne offers what other capital cities cannot offer. We are the sporting capital, we are the major events capital, we have the fastest growing night-time economy and we are the gateway to tourism throughout regional Victoria. The action that I seek is for the minister to provide an update as to what the government intends to do to ensure that Melbourne remains the most attractive destination in Australia for interstate tourism over the coming months and years.
