 Bev McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (14:25): Timothy Geoffrey Austin passed away peacefully at Port Fairy hospital on 15 June this year, aged 91. In 1956 Tim established Elfinvale Stud Kelpies, beginning a bloodline of Australian kelpies renowned for their intelligence, natural instinct, endurance and extraordinary work ethic. For 70 years Elfinvale has represented the very best qualities of the Australian kelpie. Tim’s contribution went beyond breeding and training. In 1991 he published a book entitled Our Australian Kelpie that documents the history and working qualities of this uniquely Australian breed. His efforts helped preserve and promote the knowledge passed down through generations of stockmen and breeders. Today, in the stud’s 70th year, that work continues under the stewardship of Tim’s son Tom Austin. Tim leaves behind a remarkable family legacy but also a living legacy in the dogs that continue to work Australian farms and stations. On behalf of the Parliament, I extend my condolences to Tim’s wife Judy, his children Jane, John and Tom, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the wider Austin family. Vale, Tim Austin.
