Members statements

Southern Metropolitan Region

John BERGER

Southern Metropolitan Region

John BERGER (Southern Metropolitan) (14:09): I rise to deliver a brief members statement. Throughout the winter break I had the privilege of visiting several organisations throughout the Southern Metropolitan Region. This included the headquarters of the Bodd company with Minister Brooks and Stonnington councillor Meghan Hopper. Bodd demonstrated their impressive scan technology. Their technology can detect and diagnose potential health issues early and without invasive procedures. Founded in Melbourne, Bodd demonstrates how great our state remains at cutting-edge technology. I also had the opportunity to visit the National Communication Museum, which promotes learning about our nation’s telecommunications history, present and future. I commend the museum’s good work in upskilling young people and preserving telecommunications history. I also acknowledge the work done by the Melbourne Holocaust Museum. Alongside parliamentary colleagues I recently attended the MHM’s Consular Breakfast, where they shared the work they have been doing on combating antisemitism through their project The Space Between. Supported by a Victorian government grant, this project is developing tools to combat hateful antisemitic attitudes. Finally, I had the honour of visiting the Shrine of Remembrance to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles. This ceremony was delivered by the Friends of the 15th Brigade and honoured the sacrifice of Australians in their first engagement on the Western Front in World War I. I applaud the work done by all four of these organisations across their respective fields.
