Adjournment
Northern Metropolitan Region
Evan MULHOLLAND (Northern Metropolitan) (13:09): (2434) My constituency question is to the Minister for Community Safety, whoever that might be in the near future, and it concerns violent crime in the northern suburbs. Local families and constituents are deeply shaken following the tragic murder of a 15-year-old boy, who was stabbed to death and dumped out the front of the Craigieburn Community Hospital. This sort of violence is unfortunately not isolated but reflects broader issues with community safety in the northern suburbs. Many constituents continue to raise concerns with me over community safety, and those fears are made worse by the fact that Craigieburn police station, just 3 minutes drive from where it happened, has quietly closed its doors and is shut to the community. I therefore ask the minister: will you take action to ensure police stations in the north are reopened and police officers are given the resources they need to protect the Craigieburn community and the community in the northern suburbs?
