Ministers statements: vehicle registration rebate

Ingrid STITT (Western Metropolitan – Minister for Government Services, Special Minister of State, Minister for Ageing, Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Multicultural and Multifaith Victoria) (12:41): With just three days remaining until applications close, I would encourage every eligible Victorian to make sure they do not miss out on the Victorian government’s 20 per cent vehicle registration rebate. The rebate has been one of the most popular cost-of-living initiatives delivered by the Labor government, helping families, workers and communities right across the state with the cost of owning and running a vehicle. More than 3.5 million applications have already been received, with hundreds of millions of dollars being returned directly to Victorians. For many households every dollar counts. Whether it is helping cover the weekly grocery bill, school expenses, fuel costs or other everyday essentials, this rebate is putting money back where it belongs: in the pockets of Victorians. Eligible Victorians can claim the rebate for up to two privately registered light vehicles, providing savings of up to $372 for many households. We have worked hard to make the application process simple and accessible, with most eligible Victorians able to complete their application online in just a few minutes. On Friday it was great to visit the Petrucci family, who have benefited from the rebate, assisting with paying for fuel in order to visit and care for their grandson. Applications close at 11:59 pm this Thursday. Do not miss out, anyone who is eligible, simply because you left it too late. We do not want that. I encourage everyone who thinks they may be eligible to check the requirements and submit their application before the deadline. The Labor government is focused on delivering practical support that makes a real difference, and this rebate is doing exactly that by easing the cost-of-living pressures for millions of Victorians across the state.
