Adjournment
Pakenham road maintenance
Renee HEATH (Eastern Victoria) presented a petition bearing 2018 signatures:
The chaos and consequences of the Victorian State Government’s roadworks in Pakenham, particularly Bald Hill Road, which has all but crippled the flow of customers to local businesses. The road closures and diversions discourage foot and vehicular traffic, leaving this once-bustling street eerily quiet; a stark contrast to the thriving community it once was.
We call upon local authorities, government officials, and relevant stakeholders to recognize the urgency of this issue. It is vital that financial assistance programs be established to support businesses affected by these roadworks. Compensation for loss of revenue, grants, or low-interest loans could provide the lifeline so many of us desperately need until the roadworks are complete.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Victorian State Government to take immediate steps to lay out specific criteria and timelines for financial assistance, and open channels of communication so that business owners are informed and supported throughout the process.
Renee HEATH: As this is a petition qualifying for debate under standing order 11.03(10), I give notice that I intend to move ‘That the petition be taken into consideration’ on Wednesday of next sitting week.
