Questions without notice and ministers statements

Political debate

Bev McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (12:07): (1373) My question is to member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora. In relation to motion 1509 on the notice paper, do you intend to bring forward this motion on misogynistic behaviour in Victorian politics today given you and your colleagues have just been party to bringing down a female Premier?

The PRESIDENT: In line with the standing orders I will call Ms Ermacora, but she needs to confine her remarks to actually when she may plan to bring on this particular motion –

Members interjecting.

The PRESIDENT: Mr McIntosh, I am sharing some wisdom here – rather than going into any context.

Jacinta ERMACORA (Western Victoria) (12:08): I thank Mrs McArthur for asking about when the government will bring forward this very, very important motion. That is a matter for our parliamentary processes, and I will confine my answer to that.

Bev McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (12:09): Ms Ermacora, given that you and your colleagues have just dumped a female Premier in spectacular style, sending the state into chaos, will you now be withdrawing the motion?

The PRESIDENT: It is hard to find that to be supplementary to the substantive answer. Ms Ermacora can reply if she wants, as she sees fit, or not.

Jacinta ERMACORA (Western Victoria) (12:10): The irony is not lost on me, coming from that side. I reiterate my previous answer, but misogynistic behaviour is an extremely important issue and should not be used as a joke in this chamber.
