Constituency questions

Hastings electorate

Hastings electorate

Paul MERCURIO (Hastings) (14:36): (311) I am very pleased to say that after 16 years of absolutely no action to address the pedestrian safety and vehicle congestion issues of the Somerville roundabout, work has now commenced. Thanks to the Andrews Labor government, the $930,000 pedestrian safety upgrade is now underway to make this roundabout much safer for those in the community, including the hundreds of schoolkids that use this intersection daily. My constituent question is to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. Whilst my community are grateful for the safety upgrade, they continually tell me they are concerned with the dangerous congestion and traffic flow of this roundabout. Can the minister please provide my community with an update on what plans and discussions are being undertaken to further make this roundabout safer for the many hundreds of drivers, both residents and commercial drivers, that use this roundabout daily? I look forward to hearing from the minister, and I would welcome her visiting Somerville to view the progress of this safety upgrade.
