Ann-Marie HERMANS (South-Eastern Metropolitan) (12:54): (2653) My question is to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. Constituents living in the City of Casey are horrified, though not surprised, by the Victorian Auditor-General’s Office report findings that the City of Casey recorded the highest number of potholes in metro Melbourne. The state of our roads in Victoria, especially in the south-east, has become so bad that Victorians are worried about the fatalities it could cause. Unfortunately, the fatality on the Western Highway between Ballarat and Trawalla shows that this is a very real concern. My thoughts and prayers go out to Peter ‘Tiki’ Mason’s family, friends and loved ones. I am so sorry for your loss. This should never have happened. Due to the lack of infrastructure in the outer suburbs of the south-east, my constituents rely heavily on getting around by car. Their daily trips to work, school drop-offs and other errands should not be plagued by aggressive swerving to avoid potholes and the fear that this will result in a car crash. Minister, why did the Carroll Labor government waste $15 billion on infrastructure corruption instead of looking after Victorian roads, leaving Victorians to live in daily fear?
Sitting suspended 12:55 pm until 2:02 pm.
