Sheena WATT (Northern Metropolitan) (09:55): As this term draws to a close, I want to pay tribute to the retiring Labor colleagues who have given so much to our movement and our state. To Natalie Hutchins, thank you for your leadership on treaty. You have walked alongside First Nations Victorians with genuine respect, doing the hard, necessary work to make self-determination a reality, and you have answered the calls of many generations of elders. Because of you, we can proudly say Victoria is the first state in Australia to deliver a treaty with its First Peoples. To Lily D’Ambrosio, thank you for being an incredible mentor to me and for spearheading the renewable energy transition that has made Victoria the undisputed national leader on climate action. To Danny Pearson, thank you for being a fantastic electoral neighbour in the northern suburbs. It is always good to see you and sharing our love of community in every single step, including mostly the love of our local libraries. We heard Harriet Shing’s valedictory yesterday in this chamber. We will deeply miss her intellect and her huge heart. To my upper house colleague Gayle Tierney, your work making sure that free TAFE is here to stay has unlocked life-changing opportunities for thousands of young Victorians. To you, President: you have guided this chamber with fairness, wit and, frankly, far more patience than we usually deserve. And to all of my other colleagues – Jackson, Steve, Emma, Jordan, Mary-Anne, Maree and Jacinta – thank you for your service. You leave our state in a better place.
