John BERGER (Southern Metropolitan) (12:50): (2649) My constituency question is for the Minister for Major Events in the other place, Minister Carbines. Later this week over 100,000 fans will head to the MCG for the grand final to see Freo stare down the Lions. It is going to be a big one. Melbourne is the sporting capital for a reason. While in my view the grand final is the crown jewel in the large slate of sporting events, it is important to remember just how many of these massive events go on every year. Just recently we had the NFL down here, with over 100,000 fans packing into the MCG to have a look. Victoria is well and truly booming, and I expect these sorts of things to grow even more as the years come and go. My question to the minister is: how much economic activity is estimated to have been generated by major sporting events so far this year?
