Transport Workers’ Union
John BERGER (Southern Metropolitan) (09:58): I rise to deliver my final members statement of this parliamentary term, and I want to use it to speak about my union, the Transport Workers’ Union. Just a couple of weeks ago transport workers across the country walked off the job in the largest strike in Australian transport history. Transport workers deserve to have stronger wages, fairer conditions and secure work, but corporations have been pocketing more revenue to boost their own profits instead of investing in their workforce. I am proud to see the TWU lead its biggest strike action ever, and I stand in solidarity with all these workers fighting for what they deserve. I want to applaud national secretary Michael Kaine and director of organising Sam Lynch and the rest of the team in the TWU for their hard work in organising this strike. I wish them the best as they continue to fight for transport workers in this state, as I have done for most of my life.
