Ministers statements: maternal and child health services

Enver ERDOGAN (Northern Metropolitan – Minister for Finance, Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Minister for Government Services) (12:17): I rise to update the house on the Carroll Labor government’s Parent Portal, a new digital service available through Service Victoria. The portal is another way the Carroll Labor government is making government services simpler and more accessible for Victorian families. Having a baby is one of the most exciting and overwhelming times in a parent’s life. There are sleepless nights, feeding schedules, nappy changes and often a revolving door of family and friends that want to meet the newest member of the clan. In the middle of all that, there is a long list of government- and health-related tasks that need to be done. In the first two months alone, parents are tasked with organising newborn vaccinations, a hearing test and blood screening; establishing feeding; registering the birth; enrolling the baby in Medicare and navigating hospital and maternal and child health visits. For new parents, keeping track of all this can be a lot to take in. That is why the Carroll Labor government has launched the Parent Portal, a trusted, personalised place for Victorian families and carers with children under eight. Available through Service Victoria, the Parent Portal brings together government services, support and information in one simple place, helping families find what they need, when they need it. The Parent Portal was launched on 11 June this year, and already more than 12,000 child profiles have been added. This means thousands of Victorian families are already using the portal to help manage the many tasks and milestones that come with raising a young child. For new parents in particular, the last thing they need is another complicated process to navigate. They need simple, timely and trusted information in one place, and the Parent Portal is delivering exactly that.
