Constituency questions

South-Eastern Metropolitan Region

David LIMBRICK

South-Eastern Metropolitan Region

David LIMBRICK (South-Eastern Metropolitan) (12:54): (2512) My constituency question is for the Minister for Environment. I have raised the issue of illegal dumping occurring in South-Eastern Metro in this place many times before. Glasscocks Road in the city of Dandenong has become a service centre for criminals to dispose of various forms of waste and burnt-out joy-ride cars at the expense of Dandenong ratepayers. About once a month a vehicle from the city of Dandenong does the rounds along the dirt track to assess how many flatbeds they will need to rent to remove the unsightly garbage lining both sides of the road. This has created an incentive for illegal dumping to continue on this road. Warning signs about surveillance and increasing fine amounts for illegal dumping are clearly not putting the brakes on this issue at all. My question therefore is: what is the government doing to discourage the ongoing problem of illegal dumping besides offering a complimentary clean-up service?
