Constituency questions

Northern Victoria Region

Rikkie-Lee TYRRELL

Northern Victoria Region

Rikkie-Lee TYRRELL (Northern Victoria) (12:46): (2505) My constituency question is for the Minister for Planning. My constituents ask: why has community-gifted land been included in a development facilitation program, and will the minister investigate whether its current use and proposed development are consistent with the original intent of the gift? My constituents are concerned about land at 11–35 East Street, Kilmore, which was gifted to the community for public and recreational purposes and to remain part of the Kilmore equine precinct. In 1983 the land was gifted for the use of tenants, the racecourse and other purposes of public recreation and for the broader community. However, in 2004 the trustees transferred the land for $1 to the Kilmore Racing Club without consultation with other tenants or the broader community. The land has now been included in the development facilitation program under the unlocking strategic sites fast-track initiative. My constituents want to know why and ask the minister to investigate whether its current use and proposed development are consistent with the original intent of the gift.
