Constituency questions

Southern Metropolitan Region

Ryan BATCHELOR (Southern Metropolitan) (12:41): (2500) My constituency question today is to the Minister for Police. How is the Labor government improving community safety in the Southern Metropolitan Region? Labor knows community safety is incredibly important to Victorians, and that is why this government has taken action. From strengthening our bail laws to tougher sentences for violent crime and investing in prevention to help stop crime at its source, Labor makes community safety our priority. Right now across the inner-eastern and inner-southern suburbs there are more police out in our streets keeping us safe because the government is recruiting police reservists to undertake administrative tasks, freeing up police from behind the desks to put them out on the street. Among the first wave of police reservist recruits, I am delighted that several are being posted at stations across Southern Metro, including at Caulfield, Moorabbin and Oakleigh. We know there is more to do, but crime is coming down across the region, and Labor is keeping Victorians safe.
