Adjournment

Health system

Georgie CROZIER

Health system

Georgie CROZIER (Southern Metropolitan) (18:36): (2711) My adjournment matter this evening is for the attention of the Minister for Health. Two weeks ago the latest Victorian Agency for Health Information data was due out. That is the data that tells Victorians and health services what is actually happening in the health system. This data was for the April–May–June period, and now we are in the middle of August and we still do not have that data. I raised in question time today concerns around what is happening in our emergency departments where, tragically and sadly, people who are waiting for far too long are dying. Doctors are calling out their concerns. There is industrial action that is taking place, whether it is allied health professionals or doctors that are undertaking industrial action because they cannot get any response out of this government. Yet again we have got a health system that is in absolute crisis. On Wednesday night 40 ambulances could not be staffed, and on Thursday night 44 ambulances could not be staffed, putting huge pressure on the system. It is really placing Victorians at huge risk. I think it is shameful that the government are hiding behind the data that they refuse to release. We might have a new talking head as the Premier, but it is the same old, corrupt, desperate government that refuses to take any responsibility or be accountable for the failures that have occurred under its watch. Twelve years of Labor in power and our health system is an absolute mess. The action I seek is for the minister to provide an explanation as to why this data has not been released. Is it because hospitals are not providing the government with the data on time? What is the reason? We need to understand, and I think all Victorians deserve a greater degree of transparency than is occurring under the Carroll Labor government.
