Constituency questions

Northern Victoria Region

Gaelle BROAD

Northern Victoria Region

Gaelle BROAD (Northern Victoria) (13:01): (2526) My question is to the Treasurer. A resident of California Gully contacted me about the financial burden of increased land tax on his family. He has a couple of daughters with disabilities. Across northern Victoria people in towns like Kangaroo Flat, Huntly, Maiden Gully and Marong are talking about the rising cost of living and the burden of increased taxes under this government. Victoria’s debt will soon blow out to $200 billion, leaving families paying more in taxes to service the debt this government has created, paying more than $1 million an hour in interest. Over the last decade Labor has introduced nearly 70 new or increased taxes and charges, including land tax, payroll tax and the emergency services tax. The Liberals and Nationals have a clear 10-year economic plan to fix the budget and deliver cost-of-living relief, including lowering land tax and payroll tax and scrapping the emergency services tax. Treasurer, I request your assistance on behalf of my constituent and ask that you outline your plan to address Victoria’s skyrocketing debt and taxes and provide families and businesses with much-needed cost-of-living relief.
