Constituency questions

Western Victoria Region

Bev McARTHUR

Western Victoria Region

Bev McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (12:56): (2522) My constituency question is for the Minister for Public Transport. Moorabool Street in Geelong’s CBD should be a vibrant retail boulevard, yet the state-run bus interchange at Market Square remains plagued by antisocial behaviour, forcing nearby traders to pay out of pocket for private security just to protect shoppers. Mayor of Geelong Stretch Kontelj has rightly championed relocating this interchange to Geelong railway station as a key step forward to CBD revitalisation. Working hand in hand with local businesses and residents, the terrific Liberal candidate for Geelong Andy Pobjoy has been a tireless advocate on the ground, leading the charge to shift the bus station and restore safety to our city centre. With the Department of Transport and Planning currently reviewing regional bus routes, will the Allan Labor government – Carroll, I think it might be as well now – listen to mayor Stretch Kontelj, support Andy Pobjoy’s campaign and commit to moving the Moorabool Street exchange?
