Constituency questions

Southern Metropolitan Region

Georgie CROZIER

Southern Metropolitan Region

Georgie CROZIER (Southern Metropolitan) (12:53): (2519) My question is for the Minister for Children. I have been contacted by my constituent Alexane, who is very concerned about the proposed closure of Coventry Children’s Centre in South Melbourne as part of the Building Blocks partnership program in the City of Port Phillip. Alexane’s children attend Coventry Children’s Centre, which is a council-run service that provides high-quality care for around 34 local children and their families. It has been proposed that the centre will cease operating during 2027 and 2028 to accommodate the relocation of two other services undergoing redevelopment. Other services being displaced by the program are being relocated intact, yet Coventry’s children will be dispersed, and families have received no commitment that the centre will reopen. So I ask: will the minister explain what measures are being considered for an alternative solution that avoids displacing children and enables Coventry Children’s Centre to remain operational?
