Constituency questions

Southern Metropolitan Region

Ryan BATCHELOR

Southern Metropolitan Region

Ryan BATCHELOR (Southern Metropolitan) (12:52): (2518) My question is to the Minister for Public Transport. How will the recently announced service upgrades to the Sandringham line benefit constituents in the Southern Metropolitan Region? From 23 August a new timetable will commence on the Sandringham line, with services running every 10 minutes between 6:30 am and 8:40 pm on weekdays and every 20 minutes from early morning until midnight on the weekend. That is 155 new train services every week, meaning locals from Sandringham, Hampton, Brighton, Elsternwick, Ripponlea, Windsor, Balaclava and Prahran will spend less time waiting for a train. Sandringham line trains will now also continue beyond Flinders Street to Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations. These extra services are only possible because of the extra capacity on the network created by the opening of the Metro Tunnel. Labor has delivered 3500 additional train services across Victoria’s network thanks to the Metro Tunnel and will add another 400 on 23 August.
