Constituency questions

North-Eastern Metropolitan Region

Nick McGOWAN

North-Eastern Metropolitan Region

Nick McGOWAN (North-Eastern Metropolitan) (12:50): (2516) My question is for the Minister for Environment, and it relates to the future of the very workers that the government and those across from us today have been waxing lyrical about. The workers – that is, the Parks Victoria rangers and staff – have now been in the trenches for more than a year trying to negotiate with this government a way forward in terms of their wages and conditions. Sadly, the minister who is now Minister for Environment – she was the Treasurer for the last year or thereabouts; we will not go into specifics there, because the ministers change –

Georgie Crozier interjected.

Nick McGOWAN: It is a revolving door, Ms Crozier; that is absolutely correct. These dedicated and relatively speaking poorly paid, when compared to many other professions, Parks Victoria rangers and staff have been pleading with this government to conclude their EBA for over a year. I would ask the minister to turn her attention to that EBA urgently and solve it before the next election.

The PRESIDENT: There are rangers in the previous Healesville Freeway Reserve, aren’t there, in your electorate?
