Constituency questions

Western Metropolitan Region

Moira DEEMING

Western Metropolitan Region

Moira DEEMING (Western Metropolitan) (12:57): (2615) My constituency question is to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. When will the potholes on the Western Freeway exit onto Christies Road be repaired, and will the minister commit to fixing these potholes before the government’s announced Western Freeway upgrade? I do welcome the announcement of $550 million to upgrade the Western Freeway between Melton and Caroline Springs, but these promises have been made before. Sometimes they turn out to be evolving commitments, rather than definite commitments, and promises for elections. Let us face it, the west has waited more than long enough for extra lanes and proper interchanges, and all of that work is needed. But the potholes at the moment are damaging residents’ cars. My constituent in the west who uses the exit tells me that these potholes are only getting bigger because the trucks that use it every day to go to the industrial sites along Palm Springs Road are damaging the surface to the point where they are damaging other people’s cars. People in the west should not have to wait for upgrades.
