 Trung LUU (Western Metropolitan) (14:55): I rise today to pay tribute to Mr Van Viet Truong, respected Sunshine business owner of Hong Hung grocery, devoted family man and valued member of our community, who lost his life in coming to the aid of another human being. Mr Truong, a fellow Vietnamese Australian, ran his grocery store in Sunshine for more than 30 years. He was known for his kindness, hard work and commitment to the people around him. Mr Truong’s senseless death has left a family heartbroken, a wife without a husband, children without a father and a community in shock. The sadness felt across Sunshine in Melbourne’s west is profound. Many in our Sunshine community knew Mr Truong as a person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. To his family he was a source of love, strength and inspiration. The values he lived by were hard work, honesty, compassion and humanity, which will continue to guide and inspire future generations. Today, my deepest condolences go to his family and friends. We also acknowledge the many local traders, customers and neighbours whose lives were touched by his generosity and friendship. As we remember Mr Truong and the values he embodied, we are reminded of the importance of safe and secure communities. Local families, workers and traders deserve to feel safe in their neighbourhoods, and this tragedy serves as a stark reminder that we must continue working together for stronger laws, effective crime prevention and a safe community for all. May Mr Truong rest in peace. He will not be forgotten.
