Dr RATNAM (Northern Metropolitan) (1379)
Incorporated pursuant to order of Council of 7 September:
My constituency question is to the Minister for Transport Infrastructure.
My office has been contacted by a number of Kensington residents whose lives are being severely disrupted by the installation of a track turnout at the western portal of the Metro Tunnel, which makes a very loud sound whenever a train passes over.
Residents have been told that the turnout is temporary and that it should be removed when trains begin using the new Metro Tunnel, which is expected to be in 2025.
Given that this is four years away, residents are understandably upset that they are expected to live with this disturbance for such a long time.
I understand that no solution to this problem or noise mitigation treatments have been offered to affected residents.
My question is: what actions will the government take to reduce the noise impacts that this track turnout infrastructure and the Metro Tunnel works are having on the residents in this area?
