Mr ERDOGAN (Southern Metropolitan)

Last week was Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which means this Wednesday at sunset will mark the start of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

My electorate of Southern Metropolitan Region is home to much of our state’s vibrant Jewish community, and Yom Kippur is an important day for them—a time to reflect, atone and repent after the new year.

We know that the community will be celebrating differently this year due to the global pandemic. While this is not easy, I know that our Jewish community stands behind the need to observe these measures to ensure the safety of friends, family, and the wider community.

As many in the Southern Metropolitan Region will be fasting during Yom Kippur, I hope your fast is safe and finds you in good health.

I wish everyone who is observing a safe and fulfilling Yom Kippur.
