Eastern Victoria Region
Ms BATH (Eastern Victoria) (11:40): (1377) My constituency question is for the Minister for Education. Geographically remote, the beautiful town of Omeo is 400 kilometres from Melbourne and 300 kilometres from Shepparton, 6 hours away from the nearest active COVID case. Parents are overseeing their children’s remote learning through digital media and also set out through hard copy work. Under Daniel Andrews’s COVID restrictions in regional Victoria, they can visit a playground, they can do community sport, they can go to creative studios, yet the parents are still homeschooling—and they are exhausted. They are conducting their own work and they are being parents and teachers, and they are very worried about their children’s mental health, being isolated and away from teachers, away from that face-to-face interaction, away from the learning environment, the positive learning environment, that classrooms afford. My constituents are highly distressed by this, so I urgently ask the minister to allow students in my electorate of Eastern Victoria Region and specifically in Omeo to support my constituency to open immediately.
