Constituency questions

Northern Victoria Region

Ms LOVELL

Northern Victoria Region

Ms LOVELL (Northern Victoria) (11:35): (1373) My question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and I seek an update on planning for a full diamond interchange at the intersection of Watson Street and the Hume Freeway, Wallan East. The project will see the construction of south-orientated Hume Freeway on-off ramps to exit and enter Watson Street, Wallan East, creating a full diamond interchange at the intersection to ensure a free flow of traffic. Mitchell Shire Council has long advocated for the project to be elevated as a priority by the Andrews Labor government, and when I last raised the issue in November 2019 the then minister stated that the Department of Transport was currently progressing planning approvals that would enable this project to be considered for construction funding. The project fits with Infrastructure Australia’s currently listed priority project, the Melbourne outer northern suburbs to CBD capacity upgrade, and recommendation 70 of Infrastructure Victoria’s draft 30-year infrastructure strategy. Will the minister prioritise the construction of a full diamond interchange at the intersection of Watson Street and the Hume Freeway in Wallan and commit to the state’s share of funding for the project?
