Mrs McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (11:38): (1376) My question is for the Minister for Resources and relates to Beach Energy’s development of its successful enterprise project exploration near Port Campbell into a production well. For the record, there will be no drilling within the Twelve Apostles Marine National Park. Extended reach drilling is a proven, safe technology with minimal environmental impact. It will not damage aquifers or impact the cliffs. Through its development the project has faced complex, detailed and extensive regulation with multiple state and federal bodies. Protection of the cultural and environmental value of the area is central to this. In production it will be subject to stringent, ongoing monitoring. Gas is absolutely vital for all Victorians for affordable cooking, heating and for employment in agriculture production and manufacturing. My question to the minister is: will she join me in rejecting the populist, ignorant, cliff-collapsing, environmental scare stories which the Greens party are whipping up to support their hardline anti-gas agenda?
