Martin Blight
Ms STITT (Western Metropolitan—Minister for Workplace Safety, Minister for Early Childhood)
Incorporated pursuant to order of Council of 7 September:
I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and work colleagues of the late Martin ‘Marty’ Blight who passed away on Monday, 13 September 2021, in hospital.
I understand Marty became unwell after contracting COVID-19.
Marty was a long-term employee of Serco in Mill Park. He was a father, a friend to many, and reportedly was also a very keen fisherman.
He was a committed member of the Australian Services Union. I know many of my comrades at the ASU are also grieving right now.
I understand that the ASU has been speaking with Marty’s family directly and both the ASU and Marty’s family have shared an important message to everyone—to get vaccinated as soon as possible so that no-one else has to go through the trauma of losing someone to COVID-19.
I join Marty’s family in strongly encouraging everyone to get vaccinated without delay.
Sending all my heartfelt sympathy and solidarity to Marty’s family, friends and work colleagues at this very difficult time.
Vale, Marty Blight.
