Sale College

Danny O’BRIEN (Gippsland South) (09:45): Labor might like to label Victoria the Education State, but it seems to be a pretty geographically limited state if that is the case after the government’s failure to fund a new Sale College in last week’s budget. The Sale College community, Wellington shire, Committee for Wellington and I have been campaigning for a new Sale College for nearly 10 years, combining two ageing, dilapidated campuses into one new site to deliver better educational outcomes for Sale kids in our community. We have a master plan, we have a site purchased and we have a community on board; we have just been left behind by a government that fails to consider the needs of country kids. Even when the government makes commitments, it fails to follow through. The 2022–23 budget allocated $7 million for Yinnar Primary School, but four years later nothing has happened. Before the 2022 election Labor committed $11 million to Leongatha Secondary College; again, not a single sod has been turned. Labor talks a big game on education but repeatedly lets Gippsland down, and I and the Nationals will keep up the fight.
