Georgie CROZIER (Southern Metropolitan) (14:57): (2469) My question is to the Minister for Public and Active Transport. The 606 bus route runs between Elsternwick station and Fishermans Bend in a growing community that connects people to work, school, shopping and recreation and provides links to the wider Melbourne transport network. Many residents agree that the 606 route is not meeting current demand, with overcrowding at peak times and infrequent services, often running only every 30 to 40 minutes. A local school student raised this issue with me, highlighting the importance of the bus for students at Albert Park College, Elwood College and Port Melbourne Secondary College. The 606 is the only public transport service that takes passengers right into Fishermans Bend, further than the route 12 and 96 trams. Fishermans Bend is predicted to grow to around 80,000 residents by 2050 – although you would not know it because the government has done absolutely nothing; it has sat on that area for 12 years – yet the existing bus service is inadequate. Minister, will you address the concerns raised by my constituents and improve the route 606 bus service to ensure reliable transport for this community, which is needed now and into the future?
