David DAVIS (Southern Metropolitan) (14:55): (2468) My constituency question today is for the Minister for Planning and it concerns Oakleigh and the government’s declaration of a high-rise, high-density area there, including the discretionary height limits of six to 16 storeys that now exist through the discretionary height limits that have been put in place. Now, I hasten to add that a discretionary height limit is exactly that – discretionary. It is not really a height limit at all.
Bev McArthur interjected.
David DAVIS: Yes, that is exactly right. But we now have applications coming forward which have the capacity to change the nature of Oakleigh – the village feel, the enjoyment of Eaton Mall and so forth – and to impact on the local community. But the local community has had no say. What I am seeking from you, Minister, is for you to visit Oakleigh with me and a number of traders to discuss these high-rise, high-density plans that you have put in place without consultation with the community, without consultation with the council – (Time expired)
