Adjournment

mRNA research

John BERGER

mRNA research

John BERGER (Southern Metropolitan) (22:09): (2752) My adjournment matter is directed towards the Minister for Medical Research in the other place. It is no secret that Victoria leads the nation when it comes to medical research. We have the facilities, we have the scientists and we have a state government which has backed the sector for more than a decade. The minister recently announced $2 million in new grants as part of the of the mRNA Victoria pipeline program, but this is not the only investment which our government is making in mRNA technology. We have seen the promise of mRNA research in recent announcements on how the cancer vaccine reduced the risk of recurrence and the spread of melanoma in a late-stage trial. The action I seek is for the minister to report back on how the Carroll Labor government’s investments into mRNA research are supporting Victoria’s medical research sector to maintain its position as a national leader.
