Constituency questions

Western Victoria Region

Bev McARTHUR

Western Victoria Region

Bev McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (12:46): (2560) My constituency question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and it asks: will the government go beyond a compensation review and match the coalition’s $5 billion commitment to eliminate 1 million potholes? Today I received a report from our very hardworking Liberal candidate for South Barwon Libby Pettit about the Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Road’s deplorable condition, particularly near the prison. The state-owned road is poorly lit and riddled with potholes, making it one of Victoria’s most dangerous roads. Libby is not the only person to complain. My constituent Mietta said, ‘I’m genuinely scared to drive the road.’ There is a multitude of photos of the road’s potholes on the 46,000-strong Facebook page Geelong Name and Shame, and I have raised the state of this road before. Minister, will you fix the road, or will your government keep ignoring my community?
