Constituency questions

Western Metropolitan Region

Moira DEEMING

Western Metropolitan Region

Moira DEEMING (Western Metropolitan) (12:47): (2561) My constituency question is for the Minister for Public Transport. My constituent asks: what measurable impact is West Tarneit train station projected to have on overcrowding, and what are the medium-term plans to reduce dependence on a single corridor for one of Melbourne’s fastest growing communities? My constituent is deeply frustrated with the public transport service delivery in the area. They have told me that although Tarneit has been one of the fastest growing communities for years, the transport response still feels completely out of step with reality. Residents have been dealing with trains that are full when they arrive at the station, almost no bus connectivity, constant peak-hour timetable changes and cancellations, and an overall system that has not kept pace with population growth. West Tarneit train station is being built and is expected to open soon, which is obviously welcome. But it does not add more capacity to the trains that turn up at the new station and does not solve last-minute timetable changes and overcapacity.
