Libertarian Party

David LIMBRICK (South-Eastern Metropolitan) (09:58): In my first speech in this place in early 2019 I declared that I was here to defend human freedom and to oppose efforts to impose taxes, police thoughts and increase red tape. Our philosophy can be summarised by the words I quoted in that speech from John Stuart Mill: ‘Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign.’ I pledged to listen to my constituents about how the nanny state is encroaching on their lives and to untie red tape wherever I find it. Little did I know that the largest imposition of state power that any of us have ever known was just on the doorstep, with the government response to the pandemic seeing massive censorship and restriction of human rights. The Libertarians stood firm and defended the right of people to make choices about their own lives, including what medication they take. I can proudly say that the Libertarians are the only party represented in Parliament that have never voted for an increase in taxes and at every point have been fierce defenders of free speech. Human freedom is the key ingredient to human flourishing. If I am returned to Parliament after November, I pledge to continue to fight every day to defend the freedom of individuals to live their lives how they choose.
