 Richard WELCH (North-Eastern Metropolitan) (13:12): (2593) My constituency question is for the Minister for Public Transport. Constituents in my electorate were very curious to see that the Suburban Rail Loop had de-scoped the crossing at the proposed Burwood station. It was claimed to be a saving when of course it was never in scope in the first place – that is curious in itself. But the fact remains that there is not going to be a connection now from one side of Burwood Highway to the other between the two stations. It is used by, for example, Presbyterian Ladies’ College and Deakin Uni students, who now will have to cross six lanes of traffic, a tram track and three traffic lights daily at what is meant to be a busy, busy station. My question is: what pedestrian safety and crossing capacity assessment was undertaken before the decision was made to remove the Burwood pedestrian bridge?
