Introducing the Deakin Gallery
The Victorian Parliament has paid special tribute to Alfred Deakin, a giant of early Australian politics.
Our latest feature video takes a look at the Victorian Parliamentary Library's new Deakin Gallery, named in honour of the Victorian politician who became Australia's second Prime Minister.
The gallery was recently transformed from an underutilised newspaper reading room and now houses many rare and precious historical documents from the Parliamentary Library's collection.
Alfred Deakin was an avid user of the Parliamentary Library during his time as a member of the Victorian Parliament before transferring to federal politics at the time of federation.
The opening of the Deakin Gallery recognises the significant contribution that the man known as 'Affable Alfred' made to Victoria and Australia.
