Issue:

This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly Retail theft is rampant and it must stop. The cost of grocery prices is driving people insane and retailers are looking to the Premier of Victoria to strengthen the laws relating to shop theft and to undertake policy work on a sustainable retail industry. Any one new law alone is not enough. We need a sustainable policy approach to curb the problem of retail theft. Concerned members of the Berwick and wider Victorian community are looking to our lawmakers for an improvement. Not just a quick fix. A real solution is needed because retailers are losing money from shop theft and it's making our communities unsafe. Victoria Government’s Crime Statistics Agency’s (CSA) states that close to 100,000 retail criminal offences have been committed in the financial year 24/25.

Action:

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly calls on the Victorian Government to do policy work on a more sustainable retail industry where everyone has the capacity to pay for their groceries.
