Victoria’s parliamentary departments have joined the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network as part of ongoing efforts to make Parliament more accessible for people with disability.

The Sunflower is being used in Australia and internationally as a tool for people to voluntarily share that they have a hidden disability which may not be immediately apparent, to show that they may need a helping hand, understanding or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces.

By joining the network, the three parliamentary departments – Department of the Legislative Assembly, Department of the Legislative Council and Department of Parliamentary Services - are continuing to implement their disability action and inclusion plan.

At a ceremony held at Parliament House to mark International Day of People with Disability, Sharon Wright from Hidden Disabilities Sunflower - Australia and New Zealand welcomed the parliamentary departments to the network and briefed staff on the way the initiative works.
