The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council of an intersection in Elmore that is extremely busy and dangerous due to its large volumes of traffic of all types, such as very large trucks with heavy loads of grain and stock, turning off and onto the Northern Highway towards the depots for GrainCorp, Louis Dreyfus Company, Balco Australia, Hay Australia Bridgewater and Gilmac. Added to this is traffic of all types passing through the town which includes massive amounts of vehicles, such as caravans, every day. With the holiday season and large events held around the area, such as in Echuca and popular holiday spots along the Murray River, added dangers are created. It is often bumper to bumper traffic on the Northern Highway, causing problem for vehicles either turning onto or from Elmore-Raywood Road and it is made very unsafe. Local residents are concerned to cross the intersection of Elmore-Raywood Road and Northern Highway to enter the main street and the sporting facilities and swimming pool. Parking in this area is also a large concern.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to create a wider space for vehicles to turn into the intersection of Elmore-Raywood Road and Northern Highway in Elmore including removing the large peppercorn tree, adding traffic lights and utilising traffic engineers to help with a suitable design.
