Legistrative Council E-Petitions

Funding to fix the Box Hill Transit Interchange
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that for over five years now, the Andrews Labor Government has been promising to fix the Box Hill Transit Interchange (the Interchange) without any progress. To date, no funding has been committed to implement strategic work to fix the Interchange. Further, there is no funding allocated in the 2020-21 State Budget, despite the level of spending in the budget being unprecedented.

The Box Hill Transit Interchange is a major public transport hub incorporating the bus interchange, train station and terminus for tram line Route 109 Box Hill to Port Melbourne.

Box Hill has experienced substantial residential and commercial growth and is the most significant centre in the Eastern Region of metropolitan Melbourne for jobs, services, infrastructure and housing. There is increasing pressure on the ageing and inadequate Box Hill Transit Interchange, which already experiences overcrowding issues, to meet future public transport needs.

The Box Hill Transit Interchange Committee was due to provide a business case and its recommendations to the Government by 2019.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to commit to allocating the funding required to fix and upgrade the Box Hill Transit Interchange and provide plans and dates on when and how this will occur.
