Walking together with First Peoples

A special collection of videos has been curated to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2025.

Featuring on Parliament of Victoria’s YouTube channel, the 'First Peoples and Parliament' playlist shows a range of events, programs and activities that have been bringing the First Peoples of Victoria and the Parliament of Victoria together over several years.

Among the videos are historic addresses to Parliament by First Peoples’ representatives as well as highlights from proceedings of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria held at Parliament House.

As the NAIDOC 2025 theme is ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, the video collection also features the voices of Aboriginal young people as they share their ideas and aspirations.

This includes videos from the recent Youth Yarning with Mob program held at Parliament House as a joint initiative between Koorie Academy and Parliament of Victoria.

The collection will be of interest to Victorian educators as it includes videos relating to the Aboriginal Change Makers teaching resource developed jointly by Worawa Aboriginal College and Parliament of Victoria in a project led by Dr Lois Peeler AM, a Yorta Yorta and Wurundjeri woman who was chosen as the 2022 NAIDOC Female Elder of the Year.

The video collection also showcases a reconciliation artwork, Yarkeen Mirring (Dreaming Country) by Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta and Wemba Wemba artist Tom Day, that was commissioned for Parliament House and features in Parliament’s Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan.
