Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
Police Station for Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes is in need of a police station due to its increasing crime rate alongside its population growth.

Compared to previous years, the crime rate in Wyndham Vale has risen by 29.8 per cent and over the next ten years the area is expected to register as having one of the highest growing populations in Victoria. Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes will be Wyndham Council’s largest ward.

In both Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes, thefts, assaults, burglaries and other forms of crime are on the rise with on-street crime comprising the majority of total incidents reported. Assaults and other crimes are often unreported due to the huge effort to travel to visit the nearest police station added to the time involved in making a report.

According to Wyndham City Council’s figures for December 2019, Wyndham has 144 full-time Police Officers to a population of 288,212 people. The population of Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes is expected to double in the next six years. However, successive Governments have had no plans to build a new police station in these areas.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, the Premier and the Chief Commissioner of Police to facilitate the build of a police station in the areas of Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes.
